is a high output alternator beneficial when pushing around 700 to 750 watts rms....amp is an alpine mrd m1005(1000watts rms @ 2ohm).......... two type rs...... one a dual 4 and one a dual 2 presenting a 3 ohm load to the amp.....lights are dimming and amp goes in and out of protect mode at high volumes for extended periods of time..then comes out of protect mode when volume is reduced.......what is the best solution

  2. A high output alternator will always help the charging system.  If your stock alternator is not large enough to handle the added strain on it then upgrading it will be a good idea.

There are some other things you can try to help fix headlight dimming.  The first would be to do the "big 3" upgrade.  This is just replacing or upgrading three key wires in your car's electrical system.  By doing this you may be able to fix your problem.  This is never guarenteed but you will need to do this anyways if you plan on upgrading your alternator.  What else you can do is upgrade you battery to a deep cycle one.  This also may or may not solely fix your problem.  These are the three keys to fixing headlight dimming issues though.

You do know that by mixing subs that have a different impedance you are going to create unequal power distribution.  Since the 4 ohm sub is wired to a 2 ohm load and the 2 ohm sub is wired to a 1 ohm load you are going to have the 2 ohm model getting more power from the amp.  Just thought I would throw that out there if you didn't know this already.

So I would try the big 3 upgrade first (more info http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/foru... and see what happens.

    Good Luck!!!
