    thats pretty weird....

    .....its like a dog whistle

  2. As people age, they lose the ability to hear higher frequency sound.  So it makes sense that you'd be able to hear it while older people can't.  Some people even use a high-frequency noise as a ringtone to avoid having teachers hear their phone going off in class.

  3. If you can identify the direction of the noise from several locations in the city, you can triangulate its position.  That might give you some idea of what's making it.

  4. it might be the mosquito, a device used to run off teenagers and young adults from loitering in places. its usually in a box on a building and older people cannot hear it. usually if you are over the age of 25...but some people in their late 20s and 30s can hear it. its a high pitched rather annoying sound. some people even get it as ringtones so maybe someone you know has it and keeps playing it.
