High school - Do you think my students are slow or stupid?

I have few students that i really cant figure out their problem. I start wondering whether they are stupid or slow? When i ask them to repeat something that i said,as easy as " i like cats",they cant repeat it! I talked to them and they admitted that they are slow and forgetful!? My responsibility is to teach them and never give up. I did that and still.But they just dont bother and dont take what i give. Is this my fault? Oo. .forget about talking to parents,they always blame teachers.

They may have problems at home which make them act out as stupid or dumb to impress others...

Some students just find the classroom boring & need more stimulation.  I know this puts more pressure on you but to call them stupid or slow isn't fair & I thought as a teacher you would know better.   Are these kids from needy families where they aren't getting enough food to eat?  Are they not getting enough sleep so they can stay awake & interested?  Can you tell if drugs are the problem?   Can you take them outside one day a week for some outside project to do with whatever subject you are teaching.  

One could also put the blame on video games & lack of exercise especially in teenagers.  I wouldn't trade you your job for any reason & I commend you for teaching highschool.  Not everyone can do it especially with the lack of parental support you get these days.

well i'm 15 and i personally believe that no person is stupid,. i also have classmates like those (well not really, they can repeat that sentence).. i think that the students have the problem.. maybe they are really slow but they have really no desire to learn and just use their being "slow" to continue they're laziness... it's not your fault.. you must cooperate with their parents and tell them to encourage their children to study and learn.

its not tht their slow or stupid its they could care less they dont pay atention to what u say so thts why they dont repeat it they prob say they are slow cuz they taunt u and hav nothing better to say thts just us teens are just stop giving a d**n about them and when they fail they will start caring

They're faking it. Unless they have 'problems' they are just pretending. Don't fool for it.

1. Maybe they're not paying attention (you have to do something to get their attention).

2. Maybe they're doing this on purpose? I don't know of anyone freely admitting they're slow AND forgetful...

How old are your students, anyway? It's a bit difficult to judge not knowing. Most of the kids I know are bright, they're just not interested in school!

These students are not interested in an education. You will really have to go the extra mile with some very clever teaching to get them interested. Apparently, they have no goals or motivation.

They were probably told all their lives that they were stupid.
