High school cheerleading?

Well I think I already missed tryouts to be a freashman cheerleader unless you can do it in a different season. But if not I was thinking of trying out next year. Now my question is should I even bother attempting to tryout during my sophmore year. I never really cheered before. However I know for a fact the chanting, lifting, and dancing part won't really be a problem. I'm not exactly sure how easy jumps are but I am pretty sure I could do them easily too. I can't be a flyer because I am like 5 foot 7. Now lastly about the gymnastics portion.....

I really can't do much other than a cartwheel, roundoff, and handstand.( I didi gymnasticsin like 4th grade and 5th and they don't really teach much floor exercises. So I was wondering should I tryout for sophmore year?Do you think I'd actually have any chance of making it?

  1. Well, it depends on how competitive the team really is.

If you are looking to be on varsity - you should go to your local allstar gym and ask when they have "open gym", thats where they have tumbling, usually 10 dollars for an hour.

Also, ask one of the cheerleaders what it takes, and if they could help you.

And trust me, stunting("lifting") is one of the bigger concerns, they can teach you, but if you've never cheered before the team might not have much patience.

But keep practicing, take tumbling lessons and good luck!

  2. yeah if youre strong and have good facials. im the same skill level as you and i made JV.

  3. YOu definitely have a chance.  People always drop out or get hurt and new cheerleaders are needed after frosh year.  Since you have little experience why not use this year to improve your skills by going to a cheering school a few days a week and brushing up on your tumbling.
