I will be homeschooled for the upcoming semester(NO online school) and I was just wondering if:

1-I could go to regular public summer school(to earn more credits and meet people etc)

and

2-If I ever decide to go back to public school will my credits be vaild?

I will be keeping track of credits I earn with a transcript software...also I live in Nevada.

Thanks.

  1. Generally speaking, credits must be administered by a school administration.

For example you can Penn Foster in two ways.  Accredited or non-accredited.

Accredited you must take test and turn them in by due dates to Penn Foster who will score them and log your grades in and keep a transcript.

This is accredited by Washington DC school district.

Generally speaking, any school or college should accept these credits and transcripts.

Most schools are not obligated to accept your home kept credits or transcripts

They might give you the benefit of a doubt and have you take a placement test and if you pass it you would go into the level that test score provides for.

  2. you can go to night school and get your ged just as good as a diploma

  3. It depends on the school. Most schools will either give you a placement test if you go back and put you where your scores indicate you belong, or they will place you based on what grade you're supposed to be in, and just have you on an academic probation for a grading period and use your grades at the end of that period to determine if you belong at the level they put you at. Some school will just simply accept your "credits'. Some will place you based on standardized test scores. That's a bridge you can cross later though. As for summer school... I'm not sure why you wouldn't just continue homeschooling if you want extra "credits" and just go to a camp or join a club or a team or a class or a program in order to meet people. The pool, the mall, and the movies are also good places to meet people.

  4. It isn't as easy as just going to Summer School. Once you are homeschooled you are only allowed to do school things and take courses if you are enrolled into that school fulltime that means the entire year. It is like that in most states and believe me public schools don't look kindly on homeschooled kids wanting to be involved in their sports and such. Summer school would be included. You however can check into your local Community College and take courses there and they will be counted towards your schooling. I think that would be the best route to go. Most community colleges also offer programs during the Summer for younger teens and adults. Check into that.

  5. As long as you follow the laws of your state, and keep track of your credits as well as some documentation (such as books, page numbers, assignments...like a syllabus) so they will know what you covered, you should have no problem going back to public school.  I don't know if they will let you do summer school though.  Depends on your local school board.  You should call them to find out.
