High school credits over the summer ?

if i want to get ahead over the summer, can my parents homeschool me some classes? If they can will i still get the credits?

If  you are already homeschooled, the answer is yes, it all counts.  We school year-round for a variety of reasons and find that our kids do better overall for that approach.

If you are in a public or private school, you would probably be better off with dual enrollment, online college courses, or just taking a class at a local college.  

But if you are a really motivated scholar - whether homeschooled, public or private - and need to move on, check out Bard College at Simon's Rock in Massachusetts.

They accept high school students as college students both in summer courses and without a high school diploma as full time students.  We know several students who are attending, as early as their sophomore year in high school.  

For that matter, one of my friends in high school started at Harvard his junior year in high school - though he was one of those genius kids, soit probably shouldn't be counted on as a real probability  Still, it shows that colleges have been accepting high school students early for a long time.

The easiest way to earn credits in courses that your high school might grant credit for is to take them at the local community college in your area.  It is also often the most affordable.  

I took some computer courses at BU and Harvard during the summer when I was in high school - on scholarship - through  special high school studies programs they offered.  If you start searching now, you might find one that interests you.  Usually your need referals to similar programs from your high school teachers.

There are also paid and unpaid internships associated with AP courses in genetics, biology, chemistry and physics - especially for women and minorities - offered over the summer that grant high school credits in NYS.  I assume they are offered in other parts of the country as well.  Again, we know a girl who makes $12 an hour to work in a genetics lab coding DNA and earns high school AND college credit for her efforts as well as completing her term project for AP biology.

Unlikely. Do you think your school would let you just "homeschool" one of your classes during the year and just accept the credit? You would have to talk to your high school about it. They would probably tell you to take summer school classes, however.

I assume you are in public school.

If that is correct, you should talk to your guidance counselor.

A more readily acceptable option might be to take some online classes through an accredited online high school or even a college.

With the college approach you might even be able to get dual credit (high school and college).
