I am doing cross country in highschool. last year in 8th grade i was the 3rd best girl but since this year the first best is moving to a different school so how can i become the 1st best and pass the 2nd best? I really want to make varsity and i think i can if i train hard enough. Any suggestions? and what is a good time for 2 miles and 3 miles?

  1. for a 5k- low 20's, high teens

  2. First off good luck.

    Find out when Cross Country conditioning begins at your school. Focus on improving from where you're at.

    I believe you're able to improve you're times and PR every meet. A good time is somewhere between 18-20 minutes.

    On my CC team last year, a (freshmen) girl improved/dropped her times from a 7-8min pace to 5-6 pace.

    -----

    Quick track story

    First meet, shes the only one running for us. (Girls 800m)

    Other girls tried to "block" her.

    She managed to take first place, taking 100m(ish) lead.

  3. RUN!!!!

    ask coach for a summer running plan.

    be careful not to run too much too soon because you can become hurt... It sucks.

    5k = 3.2 miles

    # note .2 adds about 30 ish seconds it is about 200 meters

    17-18 minutes for a girl is REALLY GOOD for 3 miles

    early 20's and late teens are good as well

    One technique i am trying is: to set a goal then have some one pace me

    ex.

    -my goal for the season is to get a 18 minute flat for 3miles

    (I just got off surgery so I wouldn't be starting strong)

    -my plan is each day my friend, relative etc.. will ride his/her bike 10 mil/hour which is a 6 minute mile. I will run as far as i possibly can until I completly die. each day I hope to see an increase of how far I can go. (keep some kind of chart) do this on top of regular workout. or don't do it ever day. Do like a fast day then a long slow day. GOOD LUCK

  4. You should just be running during the summer. Work with a mile (or more, just depends on your current shape) and progress from there. You also want to get some shorter distances with sprint/walks (100m/100m) for around a mile.

    You should be doing this all summer. at least 5 days a week.

    For high school cross country you run 5k in junior high you run 3k.

    3k=1.8miles

    5k=3 miles

    The best person that i ever saw run the 5k was some guy who got it in 15 minutes (at the beginning of the season!)

    As for good mile times, I would say

    under 6 minutes for 1 mile

    under 13 for 2 miles

    under 19 for 3 miles

    But that is just a guess.

    Good luck!

  5. well I'm 13 and I'm the second fastest

    my 2 mile time is 16:24

    and try taking not so deep breathes before you run

    you don't get so tired
