I'm 17 and haven't been in school for afew years now, (personal problems) so I'm behind afew grades. I want to catch up to where I need to be quick and on my own time, Where can I do this? No online high school because its too expensive, and I can't go back to normal school either at the moment. I want something where I can quickly get my needed credits and then get my diploma or GED. I heard of such a place from someone but can't remember what the name was.

Thanks!!

  1. Many public school districts offer free GED prep programs, where you typically go a few times per week in the evenings.  Call your local high school and tell them that you're not interested in going back, but that you'd like to get your GED, and ask them to give you the number for the district's Adult Education program.  If the district isn't running the program, they should still be able to give you the number for whoever is running Adult Education in your area.

  2. If you take your classes at a junior college, you will get more high school credits for taking them there, I think it's like for every one unit you earn at a high school, you earn 2.5 for taking the class at a college. I don't know if you have to be enrolled in a high school to be able to do that, but I would contact whatever college is close to you and ask, or just go there in person, the financial aid office will help you figure it all out.  As far as finances, there are LOTS of ways to get it paid for, you can apply for FAFSA, fee waivers, scholarships, and the schools usually have other programs that will pay for things and give you book vouchers to get your books. Whatever you do, don't stop trying, you will get through and move on to bigger and better things :D
