now the reason i say its tough is because i cant focus due to people being ignorant , teachers not doing their job, and only 4 1/2 hours of sleep each night. i want to do homeschooling beacause i think i could do alot better grade and focusing wise. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOMESCHOOLING?? im someone who has little money because im an only child of a widow. are there any programs really affordable? i'd only have to do it for 2 more years because im a junior, then once i can get my diploma im going to an acting institute in NYC....

  1. Well you need to go to http://www.hslda and find out your state's homeschooling laws.

Here are some options for homeschooling onlnie or through a text book program:

The cost depends on which program you choose.

There may be a virtual public school option in your state which would be free.  You can check here:

    Good luck!

  2. i'm a highschool homeschooler from nj and i looooovvveeee it!!! I have a bunch of classes and sports with other kids (which are all affordable...but you can take online courses if you like)...not just homescholers, so the whole idea that homeschoolers don't have social lives is completely wrong and the kids who say that homeschooling is boring are the ones who stay at home all day instead of taking classes and sports! i am going to be taking some credits at my comunity college soon also, so that will help me when i want to get into a good college. I really love the freedom of homeschooling...it has opened so many doors for me and opportunities that I wouldn't have had in school...and yes, i can sleep in and go to school in my pjs! lol you should definetely look into homeschooling...it's great!

  3. Read Grace Llewelyn's "Teenage Liberation Handbook".  It could change your life and really help with option for leaving traditional school behind.

    Good Luck :D

  4. I am a homeschool mom who majored in Secondary Education, but instead of teaching in a public institution, I chose to homeschool. I think that the general public is very uninformed about homeschooling today, and still relies on the old stereotype of the "shy unsocialized hermetic homeschooler" who never leaves their home and has no friends. It is so inaccurate. My kids are very social and anything but shy! We live in a suburb of Kansas City, and there are hundreds, maybe thousands of other Hschoolers in our small area. Nationwide, there are millions of us. We are active members of several local groups for homeschool famlies, and we take part in at least one social activity every day, outside of our home. Activities are set up and organized by moms through yahoo email loops. Our local homeschool groups offers the following activities to name a small few; Girl and Boy Scout troops, 4H, campfire, bowling, gymnastics, swimming, horseback riding, art, choir, and gym classes, holiday parties, book clubs, a 2 hour long recess time every week, plus park days, field trips, picnics and academic fairs. These are just a few of the many things we do while everyone else is in school). When we are not doing our lessons, we are always on the go, and it is ironic that we call ourselves homeschoolers since we spend so much time away from home! Homeschoolers have the advantage of one on one personalized attention educationally, and we also dont have to waste a lot of time on discipline, paperwork, and busywork. We can get our lessons done in a couple hours each morning, and then get on with enjoying our hobbies and friends. We also have the advantage of making closer more meaningful friendships because our kids have the time for more playdates and outings, instead of sitting, bored and institutionalized behind a desk all day. I find it ridiculous that public schools are thought of as a great place to socialize! How can kids socialize when they have to sit silently and listen for 8 hours a day?? Homeschoolers have the time to learn at their own pace, to spend time with friends, and just be kids, without the pressures and negative influences of public school. Homeschool kids are not hermits and they are not freaky nerds. They are just really lucky kids who get to enjoy life and learning every day. No child is left behind in a homeschool, and socialization is the best reason to homeschool. Public school creates a harsh artificial society where children are raised by their peers. Homeschoolers live and learn in the real world. For more info, read the book; "The Well adjusted Child; The Social Benefits of Homeschooling", by Rachel Gathercole.

  5. I am in the same position as you... I am a junior, I never get any sleep, I get so annoyed at the uselessness of teachers, and at the narrow-mindedness at my peers. I also wish to go on to acting school soon (hopefully I'll graduate early). Firstly, be sure that you do not want home-schooling because of the people, but rather because of the educational level, the people are secondary. I feel for myself it is too late for homeschooling. I've made it this far, I'm going to graduate early, and then I'll be done with my stupid high school forever. You should really talk to your guidance counselor or principle to see if they have any programs for homeschooling kids. This also greatly depends on where you live, because different states have better schooling and homeschooling facilities than others. Your economic situation can also be a burden, unless you are a very gifted student. If you were wealthy and/or gifted, I would say to definitely get home schooled, but if not, then just stick it out. You only have one more year left anyway.

  6. I'm a Sophomore homeschooler and it's not because I didn't have many friends. It's because I wasn't getting an education and the teachers weren't doing their jobs. I just wasn't being prepared for college. We never had homework and pretty much all we did during class was play cards lol. I just started it this year and was really worried because I wouldn't get to see all of my friends as often, but if they're really your good friends, they'll stick with you and still hang out. But really it is all up to you whether or not you do it...it's just what works for you.

The program I'm doing is through K12- http://k12.com/

It is really good and you have more time to go out and have fun because you can organize your own schedule. Also, they pay for your equipment (computer, internet, books, etc.)

  7. if you think high school is tough your in for a big surprise. College, careers, family, and the adult world in general is much harder. just stick with it, you'll be glad you did. You'll learn good social skills, how to handle distractions, how to properly handle difficult people, and so on.

  8. i wouldnt go to homeschooling. but i like my high school. all i know is that all the home schooled kids i have ever known didnt really like it cuz they didnt have many friends... and then they all went to regular schools and made lots of friends and liked it SOOOO much better. good luck with your desision tho.

  9. Krrazika said it right.  Im am a homeschooled junior and it ROCKS! i can do so many things i wasnt able to before and i am learning so much more.  I left regular school this year to homeschool because of no sleep, annoying people, bad teachers, and because school was a waste of time.  Regular school restricts you from doing the things you love and having fun learning.  It was the best choice i ever made.
