High school newspaper story ideas?

I'm on the newspaper at my school & our first issue is coming out September 12th. I need story ideas that can be considered News, Opinions, Features, Arts/Entertainment, Sports, & Student Life. It cant be anything about the Olympics because those will have been done & over with, & nothing about the election. Help? Thanks guys (:

You have two weeks and the benefit of all those end-of-term reports from the last academic year.

You and the newspaper staff could report on graduation percentages and grades from the 2007-2008 year.  Compare student and teacher absentee rates, or compare your school's drop out rate to those of schools in other communities.  Compare the amount of money spent per student at your school against what is spent at other schools.

Students entering the 2008-2009 academic year might be interested in how well or poorly the school administration, teachers and students are doing at your school.  September is a good time to report on what happened last year so all parties can project how things might be better this year.

You probably also have new teachers, coaches, programs, and policies that were not in place last year.  

On principle, I would disregard anything about the Olympics or elections unless your school's students are involved.  Let the other newspapers report on these things and try to give your readers (which include parents, administrators, teachers and community leaders) information about your school.

I would wait until the October issue to cover the elections.  You must have students who are volunteering to aid national and local candidates.  And you might have new people running for seats on your school committee in your community.

You need to be timely so why not talk about what it takes to graudate hs.

Then do some features on the school that most peeps do not know.

Intereview lots of students and have some fun because once u start a college newspaper its tough.
