High school pen pal programs?

Question

I am a sophomore English teacher who also has one period of remedial writing. This class can be a bore because we go over the same stuff in regular English class. I thought it might be fun to do a pen pal project this year where they write other kids their age. I think this might also help them socially by getting them to realize there is life outside of our little town. Do any of you high school English teachers know of any pen pal programs out there? Or should we try to have a pen pal program exchange with the elementary school as part of a mentoring program too? Then maybe have a meet your pen pal party at the end of the semester?

i think that doing a pen pal project is a great idea!

i would love to do it ;)

getting to know someone outside my world would be a pleasure.
