  1. just be your self. if they do not like you for who you are then they dont need to be around you.

try to find friends that are interested in the same things that you are.

join some extra ciricular activities that you may think are interesting and meet people through them

    but above all have fun!

  2. The most practical piece of advice I can give it to talk to the people who sit around you in your classes (but not during class). Pick one or two people around you you think you'd like to talk to (people who look cool to you/similar to you). Introduce yourself, see if you have any classes together. If you're looking for a way to start a conversation, ask if they know where a certain class or hall is. Even if you know already, it's a way to get things going.

You may not end up studying with them or borrowing notes, but try to make at least one in-class friend per class you're in. Everyone will be nervous the first day. Everyone. Even the older students are a little nervous about seeing each other after summer months off. So really put yourself out there. The people around you will appreciate the fact that someone is talking to them. And when you talk to them, smile a little bit. Have the other people talk, too.

I know this is probably outside of your comfort zone. It certainly was outside of mine. I didn't start doing this until college and it helped tremendously. I wish I had talked to people like that in high school first off.

You probably won't have to be around the older people too much because you're a first year student. When I was a junior and senior, we used to laugh at the freshmen for being so scared and confused. It was cute. So try not to look like a deer in headlights. Focus on being at ease with your surroundings. It's an adventure, and how you handle it from early on will dictate whether it is a pleasant one or an unpleasant one. Good luck.

  3. I was really quiet my first day of freshman year. Although, I wasn't in a school with all the upperclassmen. This year, my sophomore year, I will be though. Our school is too big and overcrowded.. so much that there is a whole separate building for freshman. Basically, on Wednesday, I'm re-starting high school. Anyway, to help you: upperclassmen act like little 5-year-olds. No lie! The juniors and seniors on my bus last year were horrible! They would argue with the catholic school kids (elementary kids) that were on our bus with us. They'd complain like 5-year-olds too. And the others in FBLA thought it was the coolest thing to meet a freshman. Just act normal, and be yourself. G/L on your first day! :)
