High schoolers: what's your schedule?

Please only answer if you're in high school or have a high school aged kids. I'm not interested in your plans, sorry.

I wake up at around 7:30 -annoying internal clock- and am usually done with my work around 11 AM. I don't have a fixed schedule but it usually goes like this:

8: Math homework. I have a 90 minute class on Friday.

8:20: AP history work. Online class.

9:30: Mess around at the piano, a.k.a practice

10:15: Rosetta Stone German.

10:45: Chemistry program

11: Done.

Depending on the week, the AP work can take up as much as two hours but it's pretty fun. I read for fun and my writing comes from the AP class.

If it sounds like I'm not doing much, it's because I read fairly fast (about 500 wpm) and am generally a quick worker.

  1. School for me starts at 10:00 am and is over by 11:30. I have around 5 or 6 subjects each day (depending on the day) but I only do 2 or 3 of them during class. The work I do during class is only stuff that I have to be taught. Other subjects like chemistry and history are mostly just reading so I do those on my own time after school.

    Schedule looks like this:

8:30 Wake up, eat breakfast, get ready for the day

    10:00 School starts

    10:15 Grammar/Writing

    10:45 Algebra

11:30 Write down the rest of my assignments and complete them throughout the day

  2. I can't say whether your class load is light since I do not know what grade you are in or if you took such a heavy load in the past that you do not need a heavy load this semester.  To get enough carnegie units to complete high school (we are very strict with this in our home) our teens must have a total of at least  47 credit hours.

Our 9th grader this year has a schedule that looks like this:

7AM    Wake up & do morning chores

7:30     Breakfast and help clean up

8:45     Algebra 1 (self-taught from Bob Jones Text)

    9:45     World Literature

    10:45   Experiences in Writing

12:00   Main meal w/ the family and help clean up (yes, our main meal is in the middle of the day)

    1:00     Biology

2:00     Spanish (a combination of Rosetta Stone and a Standard textbook to give a deeper grasp of grammar than can be accomplished by the immersion method alone)

3:00     Art History  (1 semester class using PBS programing coupled with personal research)

    4:00     chores

    5:00     free time

    5:30     light meal

    6:30     free time

bed between 9 and 10 most days

Though it is not on his schedule, he is fitting in Geography while he waits for the Art History shows to be taped.  He will finish the rest of his Geography class next semester and through the summer.  That will give him 13 credit hours for his 9th grade year.

On Thursdays he has a biology lab class from 1:30-3:30 so he does not do Spanish or Art History on that day.  He does an extra hour of Spanish on Friday and no Biology that day.

He records the hours he spends on any subjects and we tally them as he goes.  This means that if he spends extra time on a subject when it is not assigned, it will count for when he officially takes that subject later.  The "hours" need not be literal hours if he finishes an hour's worth of work in less time.  This means that he actually has plenty of free time and often finishes his work early and goes on to the next class even though the clock says something different.  He likes to be done before 3PM.  It seems to me that is often the case.  He is not old enough for AP classes where we live but we keep his work extremely scholarly.
