The County Championship Division Two match between Middlesex and Gloucestershire ended in a draw, at the Uxbridge Cricket Club Ground in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
The match could have ended in a result, but it rained on the second day’s play for most of the time, which gave very little time to both teams to fight for a win.
Gloucestershire batted first and declared their innings on 459 for the loss of nine wickets. The highlight of the first innings was a superb century from middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Cockbain-c63756. He top scored with 127 runs, guiding his side to a terrific position.
Toss was won by the visitors’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kane-Stuart-Williamson-c70182, who elected to bat first. The conditions were perfect for cricket on the first day, as there was no chance of rain. There was very little support for the bowlers in the wicket, which made life easy
for the team batting first.
Gloucestershire’s innings was started by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-John-Hamilton-Marshall-c61362. The pair batted well and put together 52 runs for the opening wicket.
The Kiwi player was the first man to be dismissed in the visitors’ innings. He looked solid and collected 31 runs with the help of five boundaries, but failed to make most of the start he got to his innings.
Williamson didn’t have a good day, as he was sent back to the pavilion on the very first ball he faced in his innings and his side was in trouble with two wickets down for 52 runs.
The innings was then put back on track by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Taylor-c1253 and Dent. The pair collected 86 runs for the third wicket partnership before the latter got out for 61 runs. He batted really well, smashing 10 fours in his knock.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 was the next man to go after scoring a solid half-century. He played aggressively and ended up with 52 runs off 61 deliveries, smashing nine boundaries.
Wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-George-Coughtrie-c85003, failed to make most of the good batting conditions and was dismissed after adding 17 runs to the total. At that stage, the visitors were in a spot of bother, losing five batsmen for 183 runs.
However, Cockbain and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Will-Gidman-c2793 played well under pressure, rescuing their team from trouble. They put together 112 runs for the sixth wicket partnership, taking the game away from the opposition. They scored 127 and 52 in their respective outings.
A quick fire 71 from lower-order player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 team in a very solid position. He was the ninth and last wicket to fall in the innings, as the declaration came at 459/9.
The bowlers had a difficult outing, as they didn’t get http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Corey-Collymore-c1283, did a decent job for his side, picking up four wickets in the innings.
