When I was in London in the wintertime with my daughter, a couple of times we treated ourselves to "high tea." What is "high tea" like in the summertime. Do the Brits still drink their tea hot, or is it iced tea in the summertime?

  1. I'm a Brit, but a modern day one and don't bother with this high tea business.  However to answer you question, it's the same hot tea that is consumed whether its summer or winter!!

  2. Afternoon tea is the same all year round. We don't really get much sunshine here, so hot drinks are no problem in the summer! You might choose a fruit or herbal tea as an alternative, as these can be lighter. All of the major hotel tearooms have extensive tea menus offering these sorts of tea, and their staff would be happy to make recommendations if you're looking for something in particular.

You can also start your afternoon tea with a refreshing glass of champagne :)

If you are visiting London again, I highly recommend a visit to the delightful (and reasonably priced) Tea Palace in Notting Hill. A decadent treat for any mother and daughter!
