Higher chance of invasion?

Do you think that if our government took away as many weapons as they could from the public we would be more susseptible to being invaded by another country? I read somewhere that the reason Japan didnt invade us all those years ago was because we are "a nation of marksmen" & 1 in 4 homes owns a gun...what are your opinions?

  1. I will put a bullet in the face of anyone, foreign or domestic who tries to invade my home or my country, or take away my guns.

  2. the USA cannot take and hold a small nation with huge air superiority and the most expensive weapons money can buy. what nation anywhere would be foolish enough to invade the USA?  "a nation of marksmen" & 1 in 4 homes owns a gun...LOL. I go to the range about once a month and shoot in compitition now and then....and Marksman.....NO....most people who own guns watch too much TV...and feel macho with a gun. Marksmanship takes practice, patiance and skill. maybe 60 years ago before but not now....it's freaking scary to watch some of these flegling pistolero's. owning a gun with sub MOA accuracy does not mean anything unless the user has the skill to shoot Sub MOA...MOA= milliradian of Angle

or about 1inch group at 100 yards.

  3. I don't think we would be much more susceptible to invasion if we lost our right to have guns ( I state that i do not support the idea of taking away gun rights). I do admit that it probably helps a little knowing that 1 in 4 homes may have a weapon, but overall the main deterrent to invasion, in my opinion, is our military tech and our numerous police agencies who are becoming more and more professional and able to handle high risk events.

  4. Didn't invade? They came darn close to taking Hawaii!

I think most nations now look at the land mass of the United States and see that it is virtually impossible to invade the United States and control it.

  5. They will NEVER take them away from the citizens... If they even try I feel very sorry for them. (the govt) because the people will revolt and take back the power.

  6. Not likely.  The size of the land mass and its separation from the most likely invaders by oceans is a significant deterrent in general.  As well as, aside from the citizen population, there are many weapons in the hands of the militia, military and police... This country has a whole lot of firepower far more dangerous and far reaching than regular guns.  Also, eventually they would have to deal with the American civilian population with or without guns, and without guns most of us would likely find something else just as deadly to attack them with.  It also helps (as much as it can sometimes hurt) that we are commonly viewed as a country which would have no problem bombing another country "back to the stone age" or completely out of existence if properly motivated.

This does not, however, take into account how it would be much easier for our own government to 'invade' us.

I'm unfamiliar with what you read about Japans reasons but it wouldn't surprise me if it were one of the factors.  Hand to hand in unfamiliar territory usually puts one at a significant disadvantage to begin with.

I'm not saying they should or that I would have no problem with them taking our guns away.  I would take serious issue with our government making the civilian population impotent to defend themselves.  Just sticking to the question.

((edit- did I just get a thumbs down for being pro-civilians right to arms?))

  7. I don't know but I think that may be a factor.  I think a bigger factor is because our military might.

Furthermore, the reason why Japan didn't invade us is because they were bogged down in Asia.  Yes they had taken over a lot of areas.  But they had to have troops in so many areas- Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Korea, Pacific Ocean (its naval forces and soldiers on islands), China (so big that the Japanese were having many difficulties trying to take it all over), along with troops gearing up for possible invasion of India and Australia.  I think their plan would have been to take over Asia first and then group and take over the US.

I doubt the government would take away all guns.  It would be too hard and bloody.  Besides, the problem isn't gun ownership, its the problems that lead to gun violence.

Just my thoughts. And as I mentioned before, so many people with guns and armed citzenry has a factor in why we aren't invaded.  Military strength is a bigger reason.
