I'm interested in doing a degree in America in California but am unsure what grades I need to get. Has anyone been to America that could offer any advice? Not just on grades but anything at all from choosing where to study, financial aid etc? thanks

  1. Hi, this may not be helpful immediately but I have a friend in the USA who is an expatriate UK wife.  She is about to write a book on her experiences of living in Washington DC for the last 18 years.  She will be including a chapter on finding a college, and has just been through the whole process with her eldest child who is starting college this week!

  2. Schools in America are shockingly expensive to people from most countries and financial aid for internationals is very rare. So first, decide how much you can spend. In California, the cheapest schools are state schools which will cost an international $30,000-$40,000USD for each of 4 years. At those schools there is no financial aid for foreign students. Private colleges will cost about $50,000USD per year and some of those do give financial aid to very top US foreign students.

Take the SAT and see how well you do. If you get a good score and have excellent grades, apply to many schools asking for aid and see if you get lucky.
