  1. My '96 Geo Metro, which isn't a hybrid, gets around 45-48 miles per gallon most of the time.  Sometimes it gets down into the 30's, but that's in winter.  I got 51 mpg on a tank of gas a few years back.  My gas mileage isn't quite what it used to be, so I'll probably have to tear down the engine and rebuild it; it's got about 160,000 miles on it now.

  2. My motorcycle gets 55 MPG.

  3. Well Hybrids tend to have the highest.  Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid being two of the best.

If you can't afford a hybrid there are other cars to consider.  The new Smart Car gets really good mileage, but it only seats two.

For regular cars, try Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit.

  4. Actually I read an article about how the original Honda Accord would come stock getting up into the 40+ mpg range.  This is of course due to low weight as there wasn't so many safety features required back then which puts a lot of weight on todays cars.  In the article it stated there was a Weber carb kit for that Accord that would push it up to 80mpg.  True?  I didn't look any farther into it.  But that's what it said.

  5. Prius is the clear winner.

but missing from the list is:

    2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid  2.5L I4 158HP  35 / 33 mpg

which leases the technology from toyota.

  6. My sister gets 50mpg in her diesel Beetle.
