Highest grossing movies?

Question

i have been reading that the dark knight is the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time but how is it taken into account?

is it just box office performance that is taken into account or are the dvd sales poster sales and all that contribute to the overall intake of the movie?

so eg titanic recieved 1 billion off movie goers but the other 600 million off dvd sales posters etc etc

and just off hand even if heath ledger didnt die he still should win awards for playing the joker he was absolutly brilliant in it

I'm not sure how it's taken into account but i think it's just from box office sales. and i think titanic is like the highest.

I agree about Heath Ledger, he was fanastic and deserves an oscar
