Question:

Highest temperature to set home when away?

I live in a warm climate where Spring/Summer temperature highs average around 88⁰F (31⁰C). My job keeps me away from home sometimes for months at a time. I am trying to determine the best temperature setting for my thermostat. I would like to put it as high as possible to save energy and reduce costs (my central air system is new but still uses a large amount of energy), however I do not want to risk the house being too warm and that causing humidity/mold issues. If I am leaving for a month long trip, what should I do?

  1. 75 degrees is a good medium.

  2. I say keep it at 80-82* or so.  75* is too low, I keep ours at 76-77* when we are home! Years ago no one had AC, or only a window unit.  My parents did not,and I am only 36 years old.
