Highfire Blue burns up track in A8 race at Hall Green
A good greyhound knows how to light things up in a race. He knows when to take a sprint ahead that could give him the victory, and he executes his moves like a highly skilled chess player.
In Wednesday’s early 480m races at Hall Green Greyhound Stadium, Highfire Blue (3-1) had all the right moves en route to a close first-place finish in the A8 race. Bounding out of trap
three, he ran a great race, and led near the line to finish in 29.71. Witch Way Henry, the 2-1 pre-race favourite, found the way to second place, finishing ¾ lengths behind Highfire Blue with a time of 29.77.
The number three spot was claimed by Beltra Taffy (3-1), who was just a head’s length out of second place. His finishing time of 29.77 matched that of Witch Way Henry. Prodigy Boost (8-1)
couldn’t boost himself into the top three, missing third place by just 1¾ lengths. He finished the race with a time of 29.91. A clear run was not enough for Aoifes Way (3-1), who finished 5¾ lengths behind Prodigy Boost in 30.37. Effernogue Bell, the 10-1
long shot, also had a clear run, but finished in last place. She was 1¼ lengths out of fifth place with her 30.47 finish.
The A8 race that followed featured a pair of joint favourites in Cropwell Venus and Kahara Desert. Both dogs were staked with 3-1 odds to win, but only one of the two managed to lay claim
on the victory. Cropwell Venus had a great start from trap two, leading fourth, and running on to a great 29.45 finish. Finishing 3½ lengths behind her was Prodigy Eimear (4-1), who held an early pace and led second on the way to a second-place finish. She
completed the race in 29.73.
Kahara Desert, the other joint favourite, went wide out of trap five, but ran on to finish the race with a time of 29.83 that was 1¼ lengths behind Prodigy Eimear. Southlodge Vicky (4-1),
moved quickly away from the pack when she emerged from trap six, and later led to second, but she eventually fell to fourth place. Her finishing time of 29.91 put her a single length out of the top three.
Quick Dar, the 7-1 long shot of this race, had a clear run today, but ended up in fifth place with a time of 30.07, which was 2 lengths behind fourth place. Gallowstown Girl (6-1), also
had a clear run, but ran to a sixth-place finish in 30.27 that was 2½ lengths behind Quick Dar.
Will Highfire Blue be able to light the competition on fire once again? Find out when the 480m races at Hall Green Greyhound Stadium resume on Friday 24 September at 19:30.
