Highlanders focused on crucial match against the Lions - Super Rugby update
New Zealander derby, Highlanders, is concentrating on their all important Super Rugby match against the Lions, on May 28, in Dunedin. The derby is determined to make their place into the semi-final stages of the current championship. They are currently placed
seventh position overall on the tables and are required to win all the remaining matches to qualify for the play-offs.
Nasi Manu, a Highlander star, told media on May 26 that their side is working hard to make its place into the top four sides. He admitted the fact that it would hard for them to remain in the competition till the end but hard work always pay back he argued.
He further said that his team, at the moment is focusing on their upcoming clash against the South African franchise, Lions.
Manu added that Lions are playing really well throughout the season and it will not be an easy task to beat them. He stated that Lions have done a lot of hard work but they remained a bit unlucky and were able to grab only two victories in the current season.
The Lions are placed at the bottom of Super Rugby tables with only two wins after 13 outgoings. Their only remarkable performance was observed against the Australian conference Brumbies. They defeated the Brumbies by 29-20 on May 14th to record
their second success of the championship.
However, Manu claimed that tough competition is expected during Saturday’s fixture. He said, "We're not taking them lightly, we're not good enough to do that. We're taking it week by week and the Lions are more dangerous because they've got nothing to lose.
They'll be out to win and to throw everything at us."
He further said that, “We had a real battle to beat the Cheetahs at Carisbrook and we expect the Lions to be tough, too. I'm pretty fortunate and stoked to maintain my form over the season so far and the challenge is to continue it through to the end.”
The Highlanders will go on to the field against the Lions on May 28, with full strength as their key men including Adam Thomson and Shaun Treeby are back after healing from their respective injuries.
