Highlanders stun Melbourne Rebels by 40-18 in their home crowdThe Highlanders have stunned the Melbourne by a huge margin of 40-18 in a Super Rugby match played in AAMI Park.The victory has pushed the Highlanders further up on the point’s tables. They are now on third overall position after playing eight matches in the current Super Rugby Championship. The Melbourne Rebels went in to the field without their skipper Stirling Mortlock who had an injury during the training this week. He was initially named in the Melbourne-based outfit's starting line-up but made the decision of his withdrawal at the last minute. James Hilgendorf took the charge of the side in his absence whereas Rodney Blake and Cooper Vuna made a come for the Rebels. The Highlanders also made on change in their side as Scrum-half Aaron Smith replaced Jimmy Cowan.The Rebels had an early breakthrough in the match as Danny Cipriani scored a penalty during the ninth minute of the game. The visitors Highlanders opened their account during the 21st minute of the first half. Robinson who joined the team during the 17th minute, made it for Highlanders and score was levelled by 3-3. He missed an easy chance of scoring another try just one minute later in the play.They took lead over the hosts Rebels few minutes later as Thomson scored a try for them. The score was again disturbed by the Highlanders in to the 25th minute of the game. This time Robinson done well to score on conversion and they were leading in the match by 10-3.The Highlanders ended up the first part of the play with 22-6 as Robbie Robinson had another conversion and Soakai scored a penalty. The Rebels were totally off the colour as they were simply chasing the visitors. The Highlanders had healthy margin at the interval and they raised it further up right after the break. This time Piutau was in action for them he earned 5 points on the try. There was sluggish play from their fly half Robinson as he missed many easy tries in the match.Poki reached the score to 32-6 and Robinson missed a conversion shortly after that. It looked one sided game during the second part and Highlanders sailed over the Rebels by 40-18.
