Highlights from Gulf Greyhound Park on Saturday Jan 7
The New Year’s first Saturday at Gulf Greyhound Park has set a fine tone for the rest of the season. Since there was so much excitement on the opening weekend, one can expect an electrifying year ahead.
Let’s have a look at the highlights of the competitions, held at Greyhound Park on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
In a 550 metre Grade AA heat on Saturday afternoon, K-Rod Kennel’s, Kb's Layla, sealed a comprehensive win.
Although, the race favourite, Golddust Hades, gave the winner a lot of tough time, Kb's Layla retained the first position till the end, leaving behind Grits and Gravy and Golddust Hades – the hounds from D.Q. Williams Kennel. Golddust Hades, turned
in an all out effort, but could not surpass Grits and Gravy, and eventually finished third in the list.
In another 550 metre long Grade AA race that took place in the evening, Cecil Deville registered a convincing six-length triumph. It was also a thrilling sprint, as the runner and the third position hound ran superbly. Bob’s Dutch of LaRosa Racing
Kennel secured second position, while Vonder Lexi Lou of Currid Racing, only managed to take the show spot despite his excellent work.
The second Grade AA race of Saturday evening was won by Kells Wild Bill. The hound clocked the 550-m long distance in 30.51 seconds, and defeated, Won Ton and Dlt Traitorsplan – the two contestants who secured second and third places, respectively.
In a Grade A race of Saturday afternoon, Atascocita Adolf cruised to victory by crossing the wire in just 30.55 seconds. The victor was followed by Mw's Siren – who was a touch unlucky in the race.
The runner up contestant took an early advantage and maintained it almost till the finish. However, just a few metres before of the wire, the hound was caught by, Atascocita Adolf. The time difference between the top-2 was just 0.01 second, and it
was certainly one of the best heats on the day.
In the evening, the Grade A race was dominated by Lingle Kennel’s, Jedi Gypsy Rose. It was a tough clash too, since the runner up hound, Baby I'm The Won, was just 0.05 second behind the winner’s finishing time of 30.81 seconds.
The spectators at the venue had a lot of entertainment. Following a stirring Saturday at the start of 2012, the upcoming races are likely to be a lot more fun.
