Highlights from the final round of BMW International Open – Part 2
A Five-way tie was seen at the third spot on the leaderboard, which included George Coetzee, Mark Foster, Joost Luiten, Scott Jamieson and Retief Goosen.
Coetzee, who led the first round, failed to emulate his early performance and reeled only three birdies in the day against a bogey, which left him with a score of two-under par 70.
Meanwhile, the third round leader, Foster wrapped the day at par, as he made serious blunders in the day. The Englishman stepped into Sunday with a 66, but after dropping two shots in the front and three at the back, the player took a back seat and could
not reclaim the position he held at the start of the day.
Similar fate was met by his compatriot Goosen, who clamped five birdies in the day, but could not enjoy the edge earned from them as he sealed the tournament with three bogeys and a score of two-under-par.
The lowest score of the group was produced by Jamieson, who marveled the crowd with his powerful wedge game and accurate short game. The rookie birdied three holes in the front, four at the back and aced the par-5, 11th to sign for a score of
64.
The player was shocked at his performance. He told the press, “I didn't imagine that at the start of the day - yesterday I didn't play well at all."
Meanwhile, Luiten managed to produce a scorecard free of blemishes. The player clawed five birdies in the day without a loss and wrapped the day with a score of 67. The Dutch pro, who has not won a title since 2007, was extremely pleased with his game, as
he referred to it as a sign of his comeback.
The eighth spot on the leaderboard was occupied by Robert Coles, who stepped into the final round with a score of 65. The veteran picked five birdies against four bogeys to bank on a prize money of €50,000.
A three-way tie was seen at the ninth spot on the leaderboard, which included the second round leader, Henrik Stenson, Ross Fisher and Lee Slattery.
Fisher, who is ranked 55th in the Official World Golf Rankings, signed for his best round of the tournament. The Englishman produced a round of 67 with the help of seven birdies against two bogeys.
Reckoned as one of the most prolific players on tour, Fisher has been struggling with his short game since some time. This very reason is attributed to him not being able to lift a trophy in a long time.
