Highlights from the final round of Bridgestone Invitational – Part 2
The sixth place on the leaderboard was occupied by Kyung-tae Kim, Zach Johnson and Rory McIlroy. Tae Kim compiled the lowest score in the group. He teed off from the front and wrapped it with a score of 33 after reeling an eagle and a birdie against a bogey.
The player from Chinese Tapai marched towards the back to catch three more birdies against a single bogey and sealed the day with a 66.
On the other hand, the highest score was compiled by Johnson. The American posted a 68 after stepping into the final round with a 64. He carded five birdies and three bogeys in the day. The only problem area was his putting, which needed a little practice.
The player was pretty decent on the tee and the fairways, as he relished a success rate of 78 percent in it.
“I don't know about that. I put myself in good positions and made some putts today, a couple nice saves that kept my momentum going,” said a seemingly disappointed Johnson.
Meanwhile, McIlroy once again relished success in putting a thrilling show for his fans. The Northern Irishman produced all four rounds in 60s, which was not an easy task. The 22-year-old teed off from the front and capped it with a 33 after picking three
birdies and one bogey. Things became really slow on the back, which resulted in him sealing the day with just one more birdie.
McIlroy finished tenth in driving distance, fourth in Green Hits in Regulation and 15th in driving accuracy.
While commenting on his performance, the player said, “Yeah, it's been a very productive week to, as you said, shoot four rounds in the 60s, have a good weekend. There are a lot of positives going into next week, which is great. It would have been nice to
give myself a little more of a chance to win this week, just didn't hole enough putts. But you know, again, it was a good week and a good confidence builder going into next week definitely.”
Moreover, he said that he was looking forward to giving an amazing performance a week later at Atlanta, where the US PGA Championship would be held.
The young golfer, in what turned out to be one of the most remarkable wins in the history of golf, won the US Open last month with an 8-stroke margin over rest of the field.
