Highlights from the final round of Crowne Plaza Invitational – Part 5
Matt Kuchar, who topped the money rankings in 2010, could not take advantage of the course, which he had been practicing on in his early days. The 33-year-old native of Florida teed off from the front and after opening the round with a birdie, the veteran
dropped a shot, while putting for a par.
Kuchar tried to counter the loss, but could not attain much success. He twice missed the fairways, while making an approach shot from the tee that ultimately left him standing beyond the realms of par. The three-time PGA Tour winner birdied the closing hole
at the front and capped it with a score of 1-over par.
On his way to the back, the veteran, whose last triumph came in the last week of August 2010 at Barclay Championship, clamped the third birdie of the day to eradicate the initial loss. The birdie arrived at the right time and helped him save par within the
first few holes at the back. With a gap of three greens, the veteran attempted another attack on the pin and once again relished success in carding a birdie. The edge could not stay in Kuchar’s court for too long, as he bogeyed the immediate holes and wrapped
the day at a score of 71, which left him standing at the 16th spot.
Indian ace Arjun Atwal started the round in 12th place, but could not keep his feet vaulted there, owing to his weak putting. The player chose to tee off from the front, and after birdying the opening hole, dropped a shot at par-4 fifth, which
resulted in his signing for a par by the end of the session. Despite having big support from the Indians present at the venue, the Indian golfer could not engrave the right amount of charisma and accuracy in his deliveries and sealed the day with one double
bogey, one bogey and a single birdie.
Despite finding 12 of the 18 fairways, the winner of 2010 Wyndham Championship could not tackle the hard greens of Colonial and finished in the 16th place.
The highest score of the 16th group was posted by the winner of Greenbrier Classic Stuart Appleby. The Aussie, who grew up in a country where tacking the wind was not a problem, was seen struggling on the windy fairways. The player who posted
a 59 in the final round at Greenbrier carded a 74 after producing a bizarre scorecard. In the first nine holes, the Aussie reeled four birdies without a loss, which suggested the player was bound to rise up, but by the end of the day, he took a dip, owing
to five bogeys and one double bogey to hide his face in the lot that made the worst scores.
