Highlights from the final round of the Barclay Scottish Open – Part 2
Scott Jamieson posted the highest score of his three-day session, something he wouldnn’t be too proud of. The amateur kicked off with a 67, followed it with a 66 and wrapped the tournament with a 69, which helped him finish the tournament in the third place.
With this finish, the amateur banked on €126,117 and a ticket to the Open Championship.
Commenting on the achievement, Jamieson said, “I wasn't sure how important that putt was. I can't believe I'm in The Open - it's great. First Major, hopefully many more to come.”
A five-way tie was seen for the tenth spot on the leaderboard, which included Matt Kuchar, Peter Hanson, Jamie Donaldson and Robert Coles. Coles managed to steal the day in lead after clamping five birdies at the back and three at the front. The player edged
out the rest of the field in putting, and attained the lowest average of putts per green.
Next to Coles was Hanson, who led the leaderboard in the morning when the tournament started, but faltered as the day progressed. The Swede birdied four holes against two bogeys and lost the chance to grab a victory. His lowest score of the tournament was
66, which he attained in the first round.
Kuchar, who led the FedEx ranking in the last season, stepped into the final round with a 66 and wrapped it with a 67. The American picked up six birdies against a loss of one and managed to keep his cool until the final round, although the texture of greens
didn’t suit his style of play.
A group of eleven players shared the 14th place, which included Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood and Justin Rose.
Former world number one, Lee Westwood once again lost the chance to lift the title and the player was clearly disappointed. The Englishman stepped into the tournament with a bid to win and started off brilliantly in the opening rounds. However, he couldn’t
keep up with Donald, who hit top form just at the right moment.
Westwood kicked off with a score of 71 in the third round and sealed it with a 68. Although not a bad score, Westwood made too many mistakes in the third round and missed quite a few chances to claim the top spot.
While talking to the press on Sunday, the world number two stated, “It's not a very good score, because I think the course is there for the taking… I just made too many mistakes.”
Westwood added however, that he was ready to take Donald down in the Open Championship.
