Highlights from the final round of the Barclay Scottish Open – Part 4
Graeme McDowell stepped into the final round as a leader. He shared the edge with three other players. However, as the day progressed, the world number nine started faltering in his iron-play and putting. The player was seen struggling with the greens and
the windy fairways of Castle Stuart, which had a huge impact on his overall scorecard.
Mcdowell teed-off from the front and by carding just two birdies, sealed the first half with a score of 2-under, 34. The situation went out of hand on the back nine though, when McDowell missed the green on par-5, 12th
hole and had to wedge his way out of a greenside green.
Despite his best of efforts, the player failed in saving par and instead, settled for a quadruple bogey nine. After dropping one more shot, the veteran slipped from the top section of the leaderboard down to the 42nd spot.
After a miserable day at the course, Mcdowell spoke to reporters, “I've been a little disappointed with the golf course the last couple of days.”
It’s funny how fortunes change just in a matter of days. At one point, Mcdowell was leading the pack and seemed to have hit the right form at the right time. Although, disappointed at the course now, the player did pretty well in the previous rounds, however,
the conditions did change and perhaps he couldn’t really adapt to these changes as well as he would’ve liked to.
Before coming to the event however, Mcdowell had slight different views on the course, “a fantastic new venue, and such ideal preparation for next week. It's a very beautiful course and it's going to be good for driving stats, as there's a couple of fairways
out there that if you miss you should be shot.”
Eduardo Molinari drafted a score of 8-under-par in the 54-hole session to claim the 49th spot on the leaderboard. The Italian ace wrapped the tournament with the worst score of the session. He bogeyed two holes, double bogeyed one and birdied
four holes in the day to seal the day at par.
Molinari, who is considered as one of the finest players on the European circuit, has been out of form since the start of the season. He competed in six tournaments and made the cut in all six of them. However, it is now the fourth time that the player hasn’t
finished the opening and closing rounds of an event at par. An aggregate of eight-under-par is by far the best score attained by the player in all six events.
Phil Mickelson teed-off from the back to occupy the 58th spot on the leader board. The American pro birdied five holes in the day against a loss of two holes and sealed the day with a score of seven-under-par.
