Highlights from the final round of the Barclays Scottish Open – Part 1
Much to the delight of the fans and players alike, the 140th edition of Barclays Scottish Open finally wrapped up on Sunday, despite poor weather conditions prevalent at the course throughout the weekend. Here is a quick look at the recap for
the final round.
Luke Donald smashed a score of nine-under-par in the final round of the tournament to surge into an outright lead. The 33-year-old Englishman claimed his third season victory and once again managed to deprive his compatriot Lee Westwood of the number one
spot, in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), he so desires.
Three-time winner on European Tour, Donald teed-off from the front nine and fired five birdies, which helped him seal the opening holes with a score of five-under-par, 31. On his way to the back, the veteran clawed four more birdies and shot straight to
the top of the leaderboard. Donald banked on €550,250 worth of prize money.
Commenting on his experience, the world number one said, “If you played well it was there for the taking and with the greens being softer and very little wind. But I holed the putts when I needed to, and I holed a bunch of 20, 25 footers out there today,
and had a good feel for the greens. I was seeing the lines very well and it was nice to hold them when it mattered.”
Donald was followed by Hed Fredrik Andersson, who compiled a score of ten-under-par in the day to earn €366,830. Andersson teed-off from the back and, for the first time in the three-day session, managed to keep his scorecard bogey-free. The runner-up carded
two birdies and one eagle to compile a score of 32.
However, that was only the start. The player marched towards the front with a game packed with confidence and slammed two back-to-back birdies, starting from the par-5, 2nd. With a gap of two greens, the player once again decided to marvel the
crowd with his powerful strokes and relished success after firing four successive birdies.
A seven-way tie was seen at the third spot on the leaderboard, which included Angel Cabrera, George Coetzee, Nicolas Colsaerts, Lorenzo Gagli, Scott Jamieson, Mark Tullo and Martin Wiegele. The lowest score of the group was posted by Wiegele, who picked
seven birdies without a single drop.
Meanwhile, Tullo compiled a score of 66 for a joint third as well. The player birdied three holes at the front and all four holes at the back to marvel the crowd with his superb iron-play. Tullo might have finished in a better position had he not spilled
his chances in the second round.
