Highlights from the final round of the Irish Open – Part 1
Irish Open, presented by Discover Ireland, wrapped its wings on Sunday at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club in Killarney, Republic of Ireland. Here is a quick recap for the final round of the tournament.
Simon Dyson smashed a score of 15-under-par in the four-day session to take a one-stroke lead over Richard Green. Dyson, who hails from England, reeled five birdies in the day against a single bogey to post a score of 67.
“It's a shame you can't bottle how you feel sometimes. It's amazing - it really is. The golf I've played this week is probably the best I've ever played. I knew after that I could cut with the guys in the majors and I was thinking if I keep swinging it as
I am I'm going to give myself chance,” said Dyson while giving words to his feelings.
He was followed by Green, who missed a par-putt at the closing hole on the back and surrendered his due lead into the hands of the Englishman. Green caught four birdies at the front and one at the back to compile a score of 68.
Stephen Gallacher matched the scorecard produced by Green and occupied the third spot on the leaderboard. Bernd Wiesberger was one of the lowest scorers of the day, as he fired five birdies without dropping a shot.
A three-way tie was seen for the fifth place on the leaderboard, which included Ignacio Garrido, Soren Hansen and Alexandre Kaleka. Hansen was amazing during the four-day event. He demonstrated sheer control over his putter and was accurate when it came
to finding the fairways. The player dropped only seven shots in 72 holes.
Meanwhile, Kaleka was brilliant at the back nine, where he reeled 16 birdies against five dropped shots. He enhanced his scorecard by adding six birdies to the front nine.
David Howell and Peter Lawrie occupied the eighth place on the leaderboard by posting a score of nine-under-par. Lawrie lost his game during the third round, but soon found his way back after carding four birdies.
Jeev Milkha Singh, who kicked off with a brilliant start, could not remain consistent during the 4-day competition. He lost track in the third round after he made the cut into the weekend. He double-bogeyed the par-4 11th hole on the last day
and shattered his dreams of posing a threat to the eventual champion. He caught four birdies and wrapped the day with a 69.
