Highlights from the final round of the Open Championship – Part 10
Leader of the Asian Tour order of merit, Noh Seung-yul once again failed to make his fans proud. He picked one bogey and one birdie in the front nine. This left him at par by the end of nine holes. However, things became ugly when the wind started to take
a toll. The South Korean fired one more birdie on the back and dropped four consecutive shots on the closing three holes, which forced him out of par. The player capped the day with a 73.
While commenting on his performance in the Open Championship, Seung-yul said, “I made several silly mistakes especially with my putting today and it was disappointing. However, I know it's a very good learning curve for me this week. Every week's a good
learning curve for me. Being able to play in the British Open for the second time this week has given me invaluable lessons on how to play links golf. It can only get better for me.”
Tom Lewis, who amazed the crowd with his superb 65 in the first round, wrapped the day in 30th place. The amateur, despite facing pressure in the final moments, managed to pull an eagle on the par-5, seventh. He coupled it with two birdies against
three bogeys and two double-bogey to compose a score of 74 in the final round.
Bubba Watson, who is the longest hitter on PGA Tour, could not make use of his skills and trashed his scorecard with five bogeys. The American signed twice for a 74 in the last two rounds, further proving his inability to handle the link-styles courses.
Jason Day was yet another Aussie to take a spot in the Top 30. The player, who is still a rookie on the tour, teed off from the front and carded three bogeys against a single birdie to produce a score of 72.
Jeff Overton teed off from the front as well and wrapped it with a score of one-over-par. He reeled two bogeys and one birdie in the opening nine holes. However, on his way to the back nine, the American encountered three consecutive bogeys, which pushed
him out of the realms of par with a score of 73.
The veteran faced trouble in scrambling on majority of the greens, something that eventually showed on his scorecard.
