Highlights from the second round of RBC Canadian Open – Part 1
RBC Canadian Open has stepped into the third round with half the field already out of the tournament. The Professional Golf Association (PGA) event is taking place at the par-70 Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, Canada with a purse of $5,200,000
and 500 Fed Ex points. Here is a quick recap for the second round of the tournament.
Chad Campbell and Michael Thompson smashed a score of four-under to surge into a temporary lead. Campbell reeled five birdies against two bogeys, while Thompson carded five against a lone bogey.
“Yeah, having a great tournament,” said Thompson, while sharing his experience. “I've been working hard on the range this week and really trying to be confident with the swings that I make because this is a tight golf course. The rough's thick, and there
is a real priority on hitting it in the short grass. I've been playing really well, putting well. The greens are really good. I'm just going to have fun.”
Paul Goydos and Lee Janzen finished one stroke behind the duo with the help of three-under. Goydos, who hails from United States, teed-off from the back and started the day with a bogey, which upset the momentum of the player. However, the player did not
let his mistake matter too much and picked two birdies to stabilize his scorecard. Goydos dropped a shot again however, and wrapped the first half at par. On his way to the front, the player –for the second time in two days- birdied the par-4 fifth and sealed
the day with one more birdie against a lone bogey.
Commenting on his game, Goydos said that he was satisfied with his performance, as it was a tough course, which made it difficult to save par. He added that the rough gave him the toughest of times, as it was long and thick and once the ball got stuck in
it, it was really hard for players to retrieve the ball.
A seven-way tie was seen for the fifth place on the leaderboard, which included Adam Hadwin, David Hearn, Kris Blanks, Jerry Kelly, Rickie Fowler, Geoff Ogilvy and Charl Schwartzel.
Hadwin compiled the lowest score of the group with the help of five birdies and one bogey. The player showed a superb short game in the second round, which was evident from his Green Hits in Regulation stats.
Hadwin attained a success rate of 78 percent, which meant that he hit 14 greens in regulation and missed only three.
