Highlights from the second round of Wells Fargo Championship – Part2
Lucas Glover shared the fourth spot on the leaderboard after he teed off from the front. He produced a fantastic scorecard in the opening nine, as he birdied every other hole with a gap of one green. His accurate iron-play became the reason behind the constant
applause from the crowd. He picked five birdies in the front and capped it with a score of 5-under-par.
On his way to the back, the player sandwiched a bogey on the par- 4, 5th
between two birdies and sealed the second day with a score of 4-under-par, 68. The player blamed rain as the culprit behind the loss on the back and marched towards the clubhouse to prepare for the third round.
A three-way tie was seen at the sixth spot on the leaderboard, which included Vijay Singh from Fiji, Carl Pettersson from Sweden and Stewart Cink from the United States.
Cink made a superb comeback with a dominant 66. He carded six birdies in the second round after stepping in it with a 71. The American was extremely happy over his achievement, especially after a rough start.
Meanwhile Singh celebrated his modest finish with a strong handshake with his caddie. The player reeled four birdies at the front and one at the back after rain made the greens softer and difficult to play on.
When asked to comment on his consistency, Singh replied, “I played well. I played well yesterday, really good, and played well today. I putted a little better, but I am really happy the way I'm striking it. It has been a while since I struck the ball this
good. I am really excited. Yeah, I mean, after the delay I played well. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. This time it was good for me. I played well all day anyway, so it didn't really matter. I have a good frame of mind.”
The ninth spot on the leaderboard was taken up by two Americans and one Englishman. The trio, which included Steve Marino, Webb Simpson and Brian Davis replicated each other’s scorecard with a 70 in the first round and 67 in the second.
Simpson, who won the Zurich Classic last week, teed off from the back and picked one birdie in the opening holes. However, he picked up pace in the later holes and wrapped up the day with a birdie count of five without dropping a shot.
