Highlights from third round of Masters- Part 1
The 75th edition of the Masters is approaching the Sunday with Rory McIlroy in the lead and a group of four players on the chase. The 7.5 million-dollar event has 600 FedEx points to give away along a Green Jacket to the winner,
the conqueror of the Augusta National at the end of the day.
Here is a quick recap of the third round:
Rory McIlroy compiled a score of 2-under par on Saturday to maintain an upper hand on a field of 48 players that survived the halfway cut. He picked four birdies against two bogeys in a bid to win his first Masters.
The 21-year-old Ulsterman was pleased with his game. “It feels good. It's a great position to be in. I stayed really patient out there today. I was really, really happy with the way I stuck to my game plan and it paid off in the,”
said the leader after maintaining the lead.
He was chased by Jason Day (72), K.J. Choi (71), Charl Schwartzel (68) and Angel Cabrera (67), who compiled an aggregate of 8-under par. Day teed off with the leader and after picking three birdies on the front, dropped two shots,
which eventually snatched the pace out of his hands. He dropped two more shots on the back and wrapped the day at par.
Meanwhile, Choi the Korean pride netted four birdies against two bogeys to serve as the last hope for an Asian victory. Similar could be said about Schwartzel, who is the only South African left in contention, with Louis Oosthuizen
out of the tournament and Ernie Els struggling in the lowest section of the leader board.
Schwartzel birdied the opening two holes in the front and two at the end to wrap the first half of the round with a score of 3-under par. The initial pace was encouraging for the winner of the Joburg Open, which is why he attacked
the pin of some of the most severe holes that included the par-4 11th. He failed to card a birdie, but relished success in signing it for a par. After attempting successful attacks on two of the holes at the back, the South African capped the Saturday-round
with a score of 4-under par.
The sixth spot of the leader board was occupied by world-number four Luke Donald and Australian sensation Adam Scott.
Donald seems to be jinxed ever since he won the par-3 contest. He has not been able to card a low number in the three-day session, but despite that, he is not ready to cede the Green Jacket to some of the players leading the tournament.
The Englishman reeled four birdies against one bogey and capped the day with a score of 7-under par.
This is it for the first half of the Saturday round. To follow the other half, stay tuned to bettor.
