Highlights of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 9 in Singapore: Day 3
Final act of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series has finally come to the halfway stage and at this point, every team is struggling to gain the lead in an attempt claim the Act title at the conclusion. So far, the competition has been quite astounding with one team
trying to surpass the other in order to conquer the overall standings of Singapore act.
Act 9, the final round of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series, in Singapore, has become an intensified battle as the Extreme 40 fleet is firing up on Singapore waters. The deciding act of the series has been a great success so far with a lot of drama and thrill
for spectators.
The third day of the last act was filled with extreme sailing. During the final race of the day, the French team, Groupe Edmond de Rothschild, had a breathtaking battle with the Italian team and the current leaderboard of the series, Luna Rossa. They pushed
each other hard because giving up was not an option for both, as Luna Rossa tried to overtake their opponents and were penalised in the process.
Both, the Italian and the French teams were tagged in their own tussle from the start. Luna Rossa, skippered by Max Sirena, was trying to gain the advantage but could not get it and all their efforts went in vain. According to Paul Campbell-James, tactician
Luna Rossa, they were in second or third with Gitana and were trying to beat them but during their attempt, they got a penalty and ended up finishing last.
The lead they grabbed over France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild was reduced by the French team and they crossed the finish line on second position, while the Italians tumbled down to last in the Act 9 standings.
On the other hand, Red Bull Extreme Sailing made a superb comeback in the last race of the day to finish on top of the standings. The Austrian team has been on the top podium of Singapore act for the last three days.
Weather conditions on Marina Bay were quite challenging, as the wind were unsteady along with lightning-packed thunderstorms, which stopped racing for a while. Despite the intense forecast, the fleet was able to have a full racing day with outstanding competitions.
