Highlights of Sevilla FC's 2010-11 Spanish top flight campaign – La Liga Campaign (Part 3)
Things did not go well for the club throughout the season, as problems frequented the club’s doors. From managerial change to crisis in defence, nothing went Sevilla’s way. Injuries to key players at important junctures of the season were not beneficial
did no favours, but it was huge losses to competitors that was a major concern.  Add player troubles and you have the complete set of problems faced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sevilla-FC-c40484 in the 2010/11 campaign.
As managerial change took place, problems were brewing in the dressing room with Brazilian striker Fabiano at the centre of things. Fabiano returned to club duty after an industrious 2010 FIFA World Cup with the Samba Boys. This came on the back of leading
the Seville-based side to Copa del Rey success and a lot was expected from the experienced hitman.
Fabiano returned from national duty jaded and in need of much rest. He was not his usual self on his return; consistency had deserted him by now. The dressing room presented a hostile environment as he was at loggerheads with the team management.
His barren patch came to an end but infrequent displays in front of the goal did not. Matters took a toll for all the wrong reasons as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-c5280 Negredo was now favoured over the experienced campaigner. Problems
with the manager were well voiced around the Seville city as he was benched in successive games towards the end of December.
With all the problems he caused, he was still considered an important part of the clubs. Bids for his services from Europe’s elite fell on deaf ears. Tottenham asked for his services to improve their prolificacy in front of goal but their advances were rebuffed
by the Andalusian club.
Fabiano did not like this after being upset at the club for the better part of six months. As he caused more problems, he was allowed to leave. Sao http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 in a deal worth 7.6 million Euros. This value of the deal is of considerable
importance as Sevilla were offered around 20 million Euros by Tottenham. However, they took a massive financial blow by not selling him sooner.
With everything going sour for Sevilla, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Negredo-c5294’s performances were pleasing for the Sevillistas. The attacker regained his lost eye for goal after his disastrous debut season. He was back amongst the scorers this time around as he led the goalscoring
charts for the Andalusians. Bagging twenty goals in the league earned him the Zarra trophy, an award given to the highest Spanish goalscorer. In his most prolific season to date, he put the ball past the opposition shot-stoppers an impressive 26 times.
Sevilla managed to hold on to the fifth place thanks to their better showings against Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid. All three clubs ended on same points and it was La Rojiblancos who earned the higher position. With everything going against them since
the start of the season, edging out opponents thanks to a better head-to-head record would have been pleasing for them, showing that something, in a miserable campaign, did go well for them.
For the upcoming season, they will have to improve their showings and prepare for increased competition as clubs in Spanish peninsula fortify themselves in bids to access European football.
