Highlights of the PGA Tour 2012
The rumours finally came true when Rory McIlroy bought his new mansion in US. After his magnificent season on the PGA and European Tour, McIlroy decided to shift his base from Ireland to Florida.
McIlroy had a brilliant season which included five wins all over the globe including a major, PGA Championship, wining it by a record margin.
More than that, he won the money tour list on both sides of Atlantic but the Irishman decided to shift his bases, as he plays most of his golf on the PGA Tour.
Yes Rory McIlroy had a terrific season but is he spending more than what he has achieved so far? The world number one bought $10.9 million mansion as he hopes to settle his life with girl friend Caroline Wozniacki.
Rory McIlroy’s season is not as good as people are calling it, especially if we compare it with Tiger’s 2000, when he won nine tournaments, including three majors.
Forget Tiger’s 2000 or even 2006, Vijay’s 2004 season can be considered better than Rory’s 2012.
The Fijian had nine wins, including a major, and finished the year as world number one, leaving behind Tiger Woods. Rory is currently flying extremely high and he needs to put his feet on the ground sooner rather than later.
Finally the Belly Putter debate is settled as USGA and R&A announced that the club will be outlawed by 2016.
This gives players such as Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Carl Pettersson, and Tim Clark something to think about as they will not be allowed to use it after 2016.
Bradley and Ernie once hinted towards a legal battle against the ban but since the official announcement, they have not really mentioned anything regarding it.
When Tiger was at his peak, he used to protect his lead like anything but the year 2012 has been very different. There were many players who led comfortably after the first few rounds but failed to protect the head start, as they faltered in the final stages.
Adam Scott displayed one such show, that too, at the Open Championship, where he lead by seven strokes but could not protect it.
In a nutshell, it was a rollercoaster ride as far as the ups and downs are concerned. The thrill continues and will carry forward to the next year as well.
