Highly anticipated 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season gets closer as training camps open up -NHL Update
There are those team’s that hope to repeat a great last season and there are those who hope to change it altogether, as the new 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season gets closer while training camps open up and players prepare to get back
on the ice and show what their worth.
Team managerial staff will be busy this weekend as each and every NHL club have begun their physicals of players on Friday, September 16, and on-ice training the very next day, except for Detroit Red Wings who will begin a day later.
Each and every player will have different hopes and wishes from this year’s preseason as some desire a better season with the team, while others will play and perform in order to impress the club into signing them on for another season.
Players that have signed onto try-out contracts after failing to strike a deal with their franchises will have the most pressure because it is the last chance they will have at playing next season.
One team that has really high hopes vested in the upcoming season are Boston Bruins. Being the defenders of their 2010 Stanley Cup championship, Boston is all prepared to make another title run and include their name as the second team in league history
under Detroit Red Wings to have won it back-to-back.
"Last year was a dream come true for pretty much everyone, but that being said, it's not over and we've got to keep on going", Boston Bruins centre Patrice Bergeron said. "Now we're the defending champs, and we should take pride in that".
Many teams are also expecting a number of their players to return, either from injuries sustained last time around, or making an NHL comeback. The most anticipated comeback is most likely that of Pittsburgh Penguins young captain, Sidney Crosby, who missed
a big chunk of last season due to a severe concussion.
According to Sidney, he is not willing to take any chances with his health and will be back when its time.
"Maybe I can get by with 90 percent, maybe I couldn't but I'm not going to roll the dice with that", Crosby said when asked if he had a date for his return.
Whatever the situation might be, one this for sure and that is the 2011-2012 NHL regular season just might be one of the most exciting and thrilling in league history.
