  1. Just remember, the primary reason you are going to school is to learn.  Everything else should come is second.

  2. Be yourself and dont folow the crowd. You will have to follow new rules such as raising your hand in class to talk. You wont have the same privileges like you have at homeYou will have to follow   new rules.Find yourself a buddy who can help you through making these adjustments. If you have problems adjusting there are school counsellors to talk to,

  3. well obviously youve been home school cause you worried about phrases and behavior but really just be social and dont worry about it

  4. You have to get used to 8 minutes between classes as you go from one to another, to different buildings.

You have to generally raise your hand and ask permission to go to the rest room and get a hall pass.

If you're late for class you might get sent to the office and even get detention.

You have to learn things their way and it's all about pleasing the teacher.

Oh, PE with showers every day.

On the up side you will find lots of electives you can eventually take that you won't get elsewhere...

  5. Just don't put anyone off by ignoring them when they say hi, or something. There's not much on what you have to act like. Talk to different people to see what they're like, and then follow their actions.

  6. Obviously heading into a new situation, everyone (home educated or traditional school) would have to learn how to handle the new environment. It has nothing to do with socialization, but just adjusting.  Give it a week or so and you will settle in to the routine. Be yourself, don't follow the crowd just to make friends (friends will develop soon enough), learn the rules and study hard. After all, that is the REAL reason you are sent to school.

And for all those that believe that it is because of home schooling that this person might be nervous, I would love to see how you react on your first day of college, first day at a new job, etc. where you might not be familiar with the people, campus or job.  There are people throughout the public school system that have social problems and they are surrounded by hundreds every day. Many of these people actually are treated worse for these problems instead of helped.

The myth of the socially inept homeschooler has been 'busted' for a long time.  You just didn't read the memo!
