Highschool Golf Teams?

What do Highschool golf teams do? Like do they play other highschools in golf? Also what if you cant play golf that good will they let you join the team anyway?

Being on HS team depends on several things, how big a golf program that is in place at the school this can be determined by the school enrollment. The tournaments are usually five players with the lowest score thrown out and the top three players factor in for the medalist honors 1st,2nd,&3rd. Everyone is given the chance to tryout for the team and there maybe six to seven spots on the team and is awarded by the low score for two day event 36 holes. The typical 5A team that has a high level of competition usually fields 1-2 freshmen teams, 1-2 sophmore teams, and two varsity squads. The rankings on the team come from interteam play and usually play two nine hole rounds a week to fight for the positions of 1-10. The girls teams may have tryouts depending on the skill level. Most all the male players play junior events year round outside of the time they play for the school. The players are allowed to play in eight events annually in district and the top five players advance to the district tournament,regional, and state.

Hi, I am a freshman this year but I'm going to join my golf team in the spring. I know a lot about hs teams though.

It usually depends how big your school is to if you get on the team or not. I would not recommend joining without prior experience and practice/lessons or even perhaps a junior tournament (non school event). Boy's teams are usually larger than girl's so theres more competition. Their are only 3 returning girl on the golf team this year so they need all the help they can get. They practice a few times a week and play tournaments about every weekend. You usually play other 4A (or whatever division teams, 3A, 2A and such). They pair you up as a foursome, most likely with guys who are on other golf team and you play 18 holes walking. What ever team scores lowest they win, each individual score plays into how your school's team will do.

Whenever your season starts, make sure you'll be at the top of your game. Something that helped me was finding someone who was already on the golf team and had them coach me. Preferably an experienced player who knows the rules and course. Practice is key, read up on golf and take lessons. But always remember to have fun, never let your emotions control the game. They compete against other schools.  It depends on what school you attend if you have to be good or not to play for the team.  However, anyone should be able to at least try-out for the team.

highschool teams usually play tournament style golf against other highschools.  but you do not play individually, you play as a team.  most golf teams are smalll and very exclusive, so they only take the most experienced, but this all depends on the coach.

yes they play other school's and their are six starters,  your coach is allowed to throw away 1 score ( the highest ) and the 5 remaining scores get added togetherin the end which ever team has the lowest number wins !~!
