  1. Here's an idea, when you come home from school, do your homework right away so you don't have it hanging on top of your head. If you don't have the time to do it after school, like for example, you might have cheerleader practice, you can wait until after supper to do it. Just don't wait until late at night to start on your homework, because then you'll be too tired to finish and then you'll wish that you had done your homework sooner. Good Luck!!!

  2. I'd suggest that you write down a list of the pros and cons of homeschooling versus going to public high school.  Try to be fair in assessing each choice, and don't try to skew the results to regular school.

    Once you have finished the list, ask your mother to sit down and review it with you.  Having it written down ahead of time will help you to channel the conversation to points that can be discussed rationally, and not emotionally.

    Examples of some of the items might be:

    Homeschooling Pros:

    * Curriculum can be set up to match your interests

    * Pace can be quicker or slower as needed to properly learn each topic

    * Religious education is possible/encouraged (if appropriate to your situation) - For some people this is the key point that supercedes every other issue.

    * You get a lot of attention as a class size of one versus a class size of thirty

    Homeschooling Cons

    * Lack of socialization

    * Trouble making friends, since you don't meet people

    * Trouble finding boyfriends/girlfriends

    * Lack of resources: no science labs, no library, no gym, no music, no art room, limited textbooks, limited computer resources

    * Lack of support functions: no guidance dept, no nurse

    * Lack of co-curricular activities; clubs, sports, events

  3. What i would do is, sit my mum down just the two of you, and calmly and maturely outline all the reasons that you want to go to mainstream school, and perhaps come up with a compromise that she lets you go to school for a year, and see where you are after that. Hopefully she'll see that it's improving your grades and your more confident etc and she'll come around. Good luck!

  4. tell her exactly how you feel.

    because i totally agree with you. i think that you will miss out on so much and that your mom should definitely let you go instead of homeschooling you.
