Question:

Highschool question?!?

I'm going to high school this year...

And in the words of my mom I should "Turn over a new leaf"

As in..not be the apathetic emo kid I was in middle school

And my school has a new dress code this year...So we can't wear jeans (or anything denim at all)..Or all black outfits (d**n!)

But everytime I try to change myself, my friends (dearest, yet brutally honest friends) will call me a poser, even if I listen to a new song like Lollipop by MIKA, when I should be listening to My Chemical Romance.

My friends mean good, but they're too brutally honest, and that's their only bad trait...What should I do this year when I'm forced to wear a collar and khaki pants??...I'm not going to be ME anymore...My school took the only thing I had..My Wardrobe.

I want to try to be happy and peppy, but my friends keep me from it...What should I tell them?? Something I haven't tried please??

Shut up--no

i don't care--no

who cares?--no

f*ck off--no

shove it then--no

Suggestions??

  1. well you gotta wear different cloths to school doesn't mean you gotta be different person.  Just tell your friends look im trying to get good grades to get my parents off my back.  And so i can get a decent job or go to a good college after highschool.  If they are your friends they will understand.  just be honest with them cause well whats life without friends?  pretty dang boring

  2. The clothes don't make the girl, the girl makes the clothes!!! Trust me, you have a lot more going on for you than your wardrobe. Having spent the majority of my school career in a uniform I can assure you that clothes have never stopped anyone I know from expressing their personality.

Please don't become happy and peppy. Be happy sure, but don't force yourself to be peppy. If you're friends are preventing you from being happy you should try and distance yourself from them, you only have one life and you shouldn't waste time around people who stop you enjoying it. So if need be, don't say anything to them, just make new friends.

This going to sound incredibly cheesy but you have to be yourself, add your own twist to your schools dress code if it'll help, where shoes with skulls on or pin a mcr badge to your lacoste polo shirt.

Oh and by the way Lollipop is an awesome song and any one who can't appreciate it must have a s***w loose.

  3. I'm a big fan of giving people a taste of their own medicine. Tell your friends how they are the ones giving into conformity. Conforming to any style is still conforming. Them telling you how to dress and that being happy and peppy is wrong is them trying to get you to conform to their standards.

    Don't give into their pressure.

I suggest you make new friends. You don't have to drop your old ones off the face of the earth, just show them that you are growing up and they need to keep up, or fall out.

Also, I personally love to mix up my style. Some days I may dress more "emo" and some days I wear business casual. It depends where I am going, who I need to impress (work? mentor?), and just how I feel that day. It's no different than deciding one day to be a comfy, messy girl in PJs and flip flops then the next day feeling like dressing up and wearing something you think looks GREAT!

Doing what you want is how you can be the furthest from "poser" status as possible.

Tell your friends this and if they still think it's a load of c**p, they are closed minded and need to grow up already.

Also, school uniforms suck, but you can't break them just because you want to rebel. Show people who you are by your *actions*.
