over the past couple weeks ive been doing a couple camps. (ive neverr played volleyball before in my life)

and they're going pretty good. im getting better every day

but im still realy nervous

cuz at the camp im going to right now, at the highschool, there are about 50 girls. there are 3 teams (freshman, jv, varsity) at my highschool.

i think there are like 20 something freshman girls that are trying out..so they're gonna have to make a few cuts.

tryouts are monday, tuesday, wednesday 8-11

like what types of drills do they do to see how you play?

i just wanna know what to expect for tryouts next week so ill be a little less nervous..

  1. We'll seems I have volleyball try-outs also this up-coming Monday too, but I've been playing Varsity volleyball since my freshman year lol.

    At my HS my coach's set up basic drills focusing on hitting, setting, and passing (like serve receive drills focusing on passing etc.) then all together they rate it all out of 10 and add it up in the end.

    Since this is HS volleyball they already assume you know all the different volleyball positions for all players (setter, libero/DS, right, left) either in a 6-2 or 5-1 or perimeter defense, you gotta know it all. What HS coach's look for are players who are all around playable whether you can play setter in one match and a DS in the next so more variety of plays can be played out and boost your chances on winning.

    Here we also have several fitness tests like running a mile in under 7min 30sec and a monster agility test. While coach's are always looking for fit players they are mostly looking for players who can push themselves during a game, practice what ever. A coach is able to help you with the physical stuff but to get your mind in the game it's all up to you.

    And the number one thing coach's love from their players is one you cheer for other players even during try-outs cheering on one of your competition shows your good sportsmanship and shows the coach's that you want to be here to play volleyball and you want to play against the best to get on that team. Don't be nervous, don't bum yourself out of one bad hit or pass. When playing in competition if you bring yourself down after one mistake then your team will follow, remember this is a TEAM sport, everyone makes mistakes.

    Good luck

  2. hey! its okay, im nervous too because im trying out for jv this year! anyways

    i missed freshman year volleyball because i was vacation during tryouts (bummer =[) but a lot of the drills from camps are often used in tryouts. example is having a girl be the setter. the coach tosses you a ball, you pass to setter, setter sets ball, you spike over. Another is doing run throughs, and passing to a target. they also do a serve count (like you got 9 over out of 10 or something like that)

    not to mention queen of the court really helps coaches see if you are a good team player or not.

    good luck!=]
