  1. Sharia Law - source and definitions:

The term "Sharia" (a.k.a. Shari'a) literally means "the path to a watering hole." The Guardian newspaper in the UK describes Sharia as: "... a religious code for living, in the same way that the Bible offers a moral system for Christians." 1 It is used to refer both to the Islamic system of law and the totality of the Islamic way of life. Sharia is derived both from:

The teachings of the Qur'an. This is the Muslim holy book, which corresponds to the Jews' Torah and the Christians' Holy Bible. Muslims believe that the Qur'an is the Word of God, as dictated to the prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel.

From Sunna, which is referred to as Islamic "Custom or practice; particularly that associated with the exemplary life of the Prophet Muhammad, comprising his deeds and utterances as recorded in the hadith." The hadith literally means "report" or "narrative"

  2. It's the Islamic Law

If you steal, your hand gets cut.

  3. All you want to know about Sharia Law (Islamic Religious Law), you'll find right here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharia

For more information just google around. Sharia Law does not have different versions, just how certain countries and their judges handle it is different because in many cases Sharia Law gives more advices than strict rules.

Just search the net regarding Sharia Law and then search the legal system of different Islamic countries if interested in how strict these countries follow Sharia Law or not.

Example: I live in the UAE, Dubai and Sharjah both belong to the UAE, but Sharjah goes much more by Sharia Law than i.e. Dubai. Like Iran, Sudan, Indonesia and KSA also follow much more stricter Sharia Rules than i.e. Dubai, Egypt or Turkey. It all depends on the legal system of an Islamic country. Some go strikly by Sharia Laws and others have comon and a civil law also. Like in the UAE only family related problems will be handled by Sharia Law while KSA and Iran go strict by sharia Law.

Take care and if you do not understand anything while checking out Sharia Law on the net, please come back.

    Take care.

edit: Punishments are prescribed in the Quran and are often harsh with the emphasis on corporal and capital punishment. Theft is punished by imprisonment or amputation of hands or feet, depending on the number of times it is committed... Here you'll find some examples:
