Question:

Hike from Ecuador to Argentina?

Has anyone pretty much hiked from the North tip of South America to the South tip.....or say Ecuador to Argentina?? On foot either staying in a tent or hostel??? If so advice?? safe??

  1. Yep, its been done but that shouldn't discourage you from doing it yourself. The experiences you have will be your experiences and totally different from the other people who have done this trek.  Go for it.


  2. It would be a long and rather dangerous trip but it has been done. Be sure to research it well (which is perhaps why you are asking the question) or it could turn out badly.

    The distances between town along the coast in the desert, are great and in the mountains the weather can be wet and colder than you might think. Knowing Spanish would be a great help, obviously.

    I have 2 books about such hikes, but both are old.

    "My Hike" by Augusto Flores (G. P. Putnam's and Son's) was written in 1929 and tells of a hike from Buenos Aires to New York City.

    "Vagabonding down the Andes by Harry A Frank  (The Century Company) was written in 1917 and tells of a hike/trip from Columbia to Bolivia and then on to Paraguay.

    They are interesting reading but so old that they would be of only literary valve to you.
