  1. Monday thru Sunday

  2. you have a lot of choices in the Jungfrau region.  one easy way is to just ask at the tourist office; they will have a listing of hikes, and perhaps with descriptions of things you'll see.

    a few suggestions for you:

from Grindelwald: take the Firstbahn (cablecar) to First (that's 3000m up), then hike from the station to Bachalpsee.

one that i really like a lot... take the Mannlichen Luftseilbahn (another cablecar) from Grindelwald to Mannlichen.  at the top of Mannlichen, you have an incredible view of both the Lauterbrunnen Valley and Grindelwald Valley (the peak actually straddles both valleys).  you can just walk around the peak, but you really ought to hike from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg.  the view at Kleine Scheidegg is amazing on a clear day... deep blue skies, grassy hills as far as you can see, with the incredible panorama of the eternally snow-capped Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau.  this is a pretty easy hike, about 1 hour.  you can then take the train from KS back to Grindelwald.

another requires going to the Lauterbrunnen Valley.  you take the train to Lauterbrunnen, then walk across the street to the cable car station that takes you up to Grutschalp (it's only a 5min ride).  from Grutschalp, you hike all the way to Murren, passing Winteregg on the way.  this is a really scenic hike... you're basically walking along the shelf that encloses the Lauterbrunnen Valley, on a trail that hangs by the edge, passing through forests.  it reminds me of the kind of scenery that you might see in one of the Brother Grimm's fairy tales.  along the route, you have uninterrupted views of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau.  this hike is mostly flat, with some gradual inclines/declines.  i would say it's about 2 hours for one way.

in Zermatt, you can take the train/cable car combo up to the viewing point Rothorn.  take a moment to admire the Matterhorn; some say the Matterhorn is the best viewed from this angle.  from Rothorn you hike down the way to Blauherd, and passes the Stellisee on the way.  Stellisee is a lake within the mountains, and you'll experience an amazing view of the Matterhorn in front and its reflection in the water.  you can take the cable car from Blauherd back to Zermat, or you can continue walking (because Rothorn to Blauherd is only about 20min downhill, so not a really long hike).

  3. Grindelwald is soooo beautiful!!! I love skiing there in the winter and hiking in the summer. It's fun to see how different it looks in the different seasons. Have fun!
