Hello,

I will be taking my first hike through the Swiss Alps in September and want to make the most of it! I will be flying in to Zurich then heading to ??? to hike. From the reading that I have done so far I am leaning towards taking a train from Zurich to Grindelwald and hiking from there. I would like to spend 4 nights/5 days hiking. After the hiking is done I want to head back to Zurich to spend a day/night there before continuing on with the rest of my trip. Do you have any recommendations for 4nights/5 days hiking in Swizterland's Alps? Any "must see" or "must do" things while in the Alps or Zurich?

Thanks in advance!!

  1. There may be something of use here.

  2. This a great spot. Also check in Interlaken for a stay and you can hike to the Jungfrau, or just take the train to the top which has a descent restaurant there.

September is getting quite cold there, specially at night.

    Have a good trip

  3. Best hiking trip in the world is a tour of Les Dents du Midi in Valais. Book rooms in the cabins early because they do fill up. Once you've done that, Grindelwald will be, eh, not bad. 4 or 5 days is a nice way to do it.

  4. Wow, I'm so jealous!  I spent some time in Grindelwald in 1998, and I HIGHLY recommend an overnight stay in Gimmelwald, a tiny village nearby.  It is up on a mountain so steep that cars can not drive up there (there are no roads)--you have to take a gondola!  There is a great hostel up there (I can't remember the name, but you can't miss it--it's the only one), and an authentic Swiss restaurant.  The views up there are second to none.  Great hiking, too.

    Have a blast!

  5. take lots of money

    beer is £4.50 upwards

restaurants and cafe prices are ridiculous

you could buy a train for the rail price.

added since the thumbs down .

I ve been there , landed at Geneva took the train to Sion £80 one way.  rented a chalet in Nendaz £700, first day I paid 36 euros for a simple salad. Had to use my second bank account  5 days in.

    Scenery was fantastic.

  6. There is always the Matterhorn, more of a climb than a hike.

  7. Hello from Germany,

I would suggest, that you contact the tourist office of Grindelwald. They can send you information about hiking trips .

    http://www.grindelwald.travel/en/navpage...

If you are travelling alone, I would ask, if there are any organized hiking trips, as hiking alone in the alps me be dangerous.

    Have a nice day

    K.
