Hildreth fifty helps Somerset to FLT20 finals – Cricket News Update
Somerset batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647 cracked an enterprising half century to propel his side into the finals of the Friends Life t20 championship.
With the last night win against Essex, Somerset have now made it into the finals' day for the fourth consecutive year in succession. They last won the championship in 2005, when they defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806.
Somerset have played the finals on 4 occasions, the most by any team in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s T20 history.
After being put in by opposition captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206, who scored centuries in the last two matches. However, the side still managed to put up a sufficiently imposing total of 175 on the board.
When James Hildreth arrived at the crease after the fall of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 were 56-3 and he went on to score 58 off just 36 balls. Joss Buttler was the other notable contributor with a score of 33.
In response http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 back in the pavilion. Worse was yet to come when they lost their first 5 wickets with only 53 runs on the board.
Essex were bowled out for 148 in the 19th over, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-Gregory-c72822 claiming 4 for 39, helping Somerset clinch a 27-run victory at Taunton with a chance to proceed to the finals on August 25.
"It almost feels like we’re going home again – we’re getting into habit of going to finals-day, which is a great habit to get into," said Hildreth.
"We’re doing lots of thing right – and we’ve got to remember to keep doing those things. Maybe in finals in the past, we’ve got carried away with trying to get over that finish line too quickly."
"But we’ve got to remember what we do well as bowlers and batters. We’ve done that consistently to get to finals day – and even in the semi-finals in the past – so those are the things we’ve got to remember in Cardiff," he further added.
After tasting defeat in two finals at Edgbaston, Birmingham in 2009 and 2011, and another defeat at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, in 2011, Somerset will head to Cardiff on August 25 with the belief that they can break the final’s jinx and have the chance to
put their hands on the trophy.
