Why some hindi words have "karna" to make their "to do" form??

for example:

intezaar karna- to wait

dekhna- to see

why dekh has no "kar" at the end? and why intezaar has it??

can i say, "intezaarna" or "dekh karna"???

  1. The Hindi language has its vagaries like all others.

First - you should not say "intezarna" you should say "intezar karna".

Also "dekhna" and "dekh karna" have two different meanings. "dekhna" is to see; "dekh karna" is "after seeing"

  2. Well... its difficult to explain such nitty gritties of a language..

but i'll give you an example...

intezaar is a "noun" in hindi language (not a verb). And so to make the "to do" form  we have to add "karna"

Just like in English we say "make a bed" :D

dekhna in itself is a verb and so it does not need anything added to it for having the to do form.
